Stacks from the Past

Back to Bethlehem Steel Gallery

10" x 14" (image size) - PEN&INK

This is a view of the massive blast furnaces that still stand in Bethlehem, PA after a hundred years of steelmaking.

These furnaces that now stand quietly, continue to tower over the skyline of South Bethlehem at more than 200 ft. tall. This is my attempt to recreate the chill I now get when I stand at the base and look up at these enormous structures.

The building in the foreground is The Stockhouse. One of the first of the original structures built in the late 1800's, it is the oldest building standing on the Bethlehem Steel site. A closer view of The Stockhouse can be seen in The A Furnace.

It took me over 60 hours to complete this drawing.
